What's Ahead?

In writing students have just written a first draft of a story for the WRAP standardized test process. They complete the final draft tomorrow. Also we are finishing this week the final draft of the Invasive Species realistic fiction.

In History we are just about to finish studying the origins of the southern colonies: Carolinas and Georgia. Next we embark on an investigation of the many events that led to the Declaration of Independence. In addition students will be taking on a month long research and technology linked project on how Colonial Americans sustained themselves. We will also be examining the differences between then and now. Each student will work from a project folder with all the guidelines and materials needed.

Math Unit 9 will be finished Friday. We will do another practice test on Monday and the unit test will be on Thursday.

We have just about finished reading The Phantom Tollbooth. There are two more word lists and one comprehension quiz. Students have been doing really well processing this classic but challenging novel. They should have no difficulty composing thoughtful essays on one of the many themes we've identified.

And don't forget to discuss with your child his/her plans for our Earth Day recycled backgammon game project.
