Reading Week: Monday Our Favorite Characters Came to School

Twelve characters from current favorite books came to life today to kick off our Reading Week. Ask a student in our class who was who.

What We're Up To This Week

We're learning new math related games. Aidan S. has been particularly helpful.

It's Reading Week. Please send in a towel to sit upon for Wednesday's outdoor read. And we're still collecting books for Friday's book sale.

Also on Friday between 9:35 and 10:50 we will be showcasing the technology applications to our Colonial American Foods project. So come by the computer lab then and see all the movies, websites, animations, glogsters etc. Students will be viewing each others at this time but all friends of our class are invited.

We have a new word list from the last chapters in Phantom Tollbooth. The assessment is the end of next week.

We have will have a math box quiz for the next two Fridays.

Demolition Done, Mostly

Just before car line we returned to what used to be Crisp Gym to see what's left. Here the girls peak in. The boys found other viewing spots.

Oldie Goldie & Relay 4 Life

Our "Oldie Goldie" bin is empty so far. The used book sale is next week. Please see if you have any books to contribute. Our Relay for Life jar is filling with children's contributions. Each gets a new link on our chain to be displayed at the event on March 25th.

Deconstructing Crisp Gym

Thomas McM. drew this picture from memory after he and his class observed the demolition site this morning. We hope to look in and write about the construction site once a week.

Another Memorable Week To Know About

Admiring the third grade USA states cake.

At Friday's faculty meeting we discussed the need to make sure all students are respecting our uniform policy. Anything with belt loops needs to have a belt in neutral colors...black, brown, blue, green, tan etc. Please review the parent/student handbook.

Tests this week include: Phantom Tollbooth quiz on chapters 13 to 16 Friday. Vocab/spelling on words in chapters 12- 17 is also Friday.

Math Unit 7 test is Thursday. We will prepare a study guide tomorrow.

Next week is Reading Week. Wear your favorite book character to school on Monday. Our used book sale is Friday. Please send in all books to be recycled in our sale.

Relay for Life student donations are going on. Each donation adds to our chain. Ask a fourth grader about this.

Great Backyard Bird Count

My backyard has cardinals, redwing blackbirds, several kinds of doves, blackhooded green parrots, bluejays galore, mockingbirds and assorted smaller birds I haven't learned to recognize. And that's just what I see everyday at the feeder. I'm going to send in my count. Check out this website to get involved.

George Washington Comes to Class

In a family ritual that was carried on today, Sophie, (just like her mom, aunt and grandmother before her) showed her classmates a family owned signed letter by George Washington.

And by the way, Happy Birthday, George. He really was born today February 11th. You can look it up.

What's Going On Here

We have another round of "Phantom Tollbooth" quizzes on Friday. These are on the word lists from chapters 9-11 and the ideas in both those chapters.

Students are expected to read and complete all parts of study guide for chapters 9-11 by Wednesday. They will have class time to do much of this....the rest for homework.

Also this week we are getting well into Math Unit 7. You will see the results of the recent math test at conferences as well as the second trimester report cards.

History research projects on foods of Colonial America continue in Computer Lab class with Mrs. Baralt supervising the technology applications. Ask your child how things are going.

Don't forget to check your conference times on Thursday. They were posted here last week.

Valentine's Class Party

Dawn MacLaren and Sue Knipe are in charge, and they will bring the cookies and drinks to each classroom for the "parties" at 2 on 2/14. They have communicated to parents that Valentines are not required, but to send one for every student in class if opting to send at all. They have also indicated to the parents that students will exchange valentines, have their snacks and then simply hang out in class. I plan to conduct a Valentine's Backgammon Tournament. So play a few rounds with your child if you get a chance this week.
