Track Meet Note

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

The Shorecrest Lower Division Physical Education Team is pleased to announce that the 4th grade students will be participating in Northside Christian School’s 10th Annual Junior Track Meet on March 3, 2009. All students will have the opportunity to participate as either competitors or spectators at the meet. We believe that this will be an amazing experience for all of our students. We are excited that they will have the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned in class in a setting with other students from other schools.

Students will need to wear their PE uniforms and athletic shoes. We will be bringing coolers of water for the students, however they should bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat. There is a concession stand on site, but we would rather students bring healthy snacks, and please ask that students refrain from eating candy and soda throughout the day. We will be eating lunch there, so please fill out the bottom portion of this letter and return it to your child’s classroom teacher by February 26.

Parents are invited to attend as spectators and/or helpers. If you would be interested in helping chaperone the event, please contact Jeff Diedrich (jdiedrich@shorecrest.org) by February 26. Students may go home with a parent, but it is imperative that they are signed out by their parent with a 4th grade teacher before leaving.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us either by phone or email. We are really looking forward to watching our students shine!

Most Sincerely,

Coach Amy Pope Coach Jeff Diedrich

Vancouver 2010: Winter Olympics Project

Some of the covers for our Winter Olympics research. This is a special cross-curriculum project that combines math, history, research and technology. Each student is keeping track of a team, a sport and an Olympian. Table partners are sharing one of the events and keeping all the stats and news. All of us are learning about Olympic history, customs, ceremonies, symbols and host cities. You can get connected by linking to the sites on the left.

Double Yolk Odds

We recently completed a math unit that included an investigation into probability and odds of things happening. I played a BBC radio report on the chances of opening six double yolked eggs in a row.....something like one in a quintillion. You can listen to the report by clicking on the link to the right.

Memorizing the States by Regions

Students are learning to recite the names of the 50 states in order by region starting in Maine and ending in Hawaii. They hold their right hand up to represent New England. With their left hand they point to where each state would be in relation to the starting point. We plan to demonstrate our skill at next Monday's school assembly.

This a one of the outline maps students have used to learn the order of states. Can you name the regions of the US shown on this map?
