Classifying Everything
Our science unit on classification continued today as students displayed previously classified collections of around ten things brought from home. Everyone filled in a dichotomous key for his/her collection and we took turns touring the displays and trying to determine the classification system for each.
The collections included teddy bears and other assorted toy animals. Sharks teeth, golf balls, erasers, head bands, CD covers, lunch bags, Asian items, bird and cat collectibles, lego pieces and more.
What? Time's up? No way. Can we continue tomorrow?

Presenting Invasive Species
Holding a replica of a Burmese python skin, we explained to a recent Town Meeting gathering, how Florida has the world's worst invasive species problems. We made the skin in art class with Mrs. Rowe's help.
Classifying "Aliens"
It's all part of learning how scientists classify things. Students observe and describe different traits and make groupings. These are assembled in a classification system known as a dichotomous key.
Rachel and Ronan successfully created a dichotomous key classifying this group of toy animals. Students are assembling a collection of ten items at home creating a dichotomous key classification system which is due Friday. The collections will be exhibited Tuesday.
Engineering Water Flow Systems to Prevent Flooding
Then building models that test design plans.
It was all part of our science unit called Land and Water.
